Recently, I was fortunate to speak with Syama Bunten on her “Getting Rich Together” podcast. During our discussion, we cover everything from my origin story and early relationship with work and money, to the independence of being a latchkey kid, through my multi-faceted career and what led me to create Madrina Molly. Here are some highlights:
My early financial independence and buying my first property at age 24;
How a college bet led to an unexpected career in the early days of computing;
Breaking glass ceilings in male-dominated technology sales and the importance of self-advocacy;
The concept of a “F**k You Fund” and how it enabled career pivots and mid-career sabbaticals;
Transitioning from being a technology executive to a financial planner; and
Using Madrina Molly to build parallel financial infrastructures for women and creating an endowment to support caregiving across generations. (Remember, #WeRescueOurselves.)
As the CEO and Founder of Scaling Retail, Syama Bunten is committed to empowering women to take control of their financial futures. To learn more about Syama and her journey, visit syamabunten.com.
